PARIS — The 91st Paris Motor Show opened Monday at the Parc des Expositions de la Porte de Versailles, with a record number of Chinese automakers taking part. A total of 16 Chinese carmakers representing 25 brands are exhibiting at the week-long event, roughly double the number at the 2024 edition. Chinese brands now account for approximately 40% of all brands present, according to show director Serge Gachot.

Record Participation

More than 60 vehicle manufacturers and over 100 exhibitors are attending the show, which runs from October 12 to 18. BYD, XPeng, Changan, Dongfeng, Geely, Leapmotor, GAC, Li Auto, and Aito are among the Chinese brands showcasing their latest models and technologies. Many are making their European or global debuts, with a focus on power batteries, ultra-fast charging, intelligent driving, and artificial intelligence.

New Models Debut

XPeng held the global launch of its flagship AI SUV, the G9L, with a starting price of €74,990 in France. The vehicle features an 800V high-voltage platform and 5C ultra-fast charging, achieving a 10% to 80% charge in as little as 11.7 minutes. XPeng and Tesla were the only two automakers participating in the show’s official Autonomous Lab public road driving experience, marking the first large-scale public trial of XPeng’s NGP in Europe.

BYD showcased its 800V high-voltage battery platform and advanced intelligent cockpit technologies, while also introducing its flash charging technology to Europe. Changan’s premium brand Avatr held the global debut of its T09 concept, while Li Auto made its first appearance at an overseas auto show with the European premiere of its i6 model.

Market Share Growth

The strong showing reflects rapid sales growth in Europe. Chinese brands captured 10.7% of the European market in the second quarter of 2026, up from 5.7% a year earlier, according to Schmidt Automotive Research. In France, their market share rose from 3.4% to 8% by September. Gachot noted that Chinese carmakers are no longer just seeking visibility — they are actively looking for local partners and demonstrating a clear commitment to establishing themselves in European markets.
